MATTHEW MOKROHISKY, MD

President

Dr. Matthew Mokrohisky was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He worked in health management consulting for five years prior to earning his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He completed an emergency medicine residency at Orlando Health and has been practicing Emergency Medicine in the Milwaukee area for over seven years. He has contributed to continuing medical education and advocated for emergency medicine physicians and their patients while serving on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Mokrohisky lives in Milwaukee with his wife and four children.

LISA MAURER, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Lisa Maurer has been a physician partner with Emergency Medicine Specialists since 2011 when she moved back home to the Milwaukee area after finishing school at the University of MN and residency at George Washington University. She recently completed the ACEP Reimbursement Fellowship. She serves as an officer for the Wisconsin Chapter of ACEP and is a member of the Wisconsin Medical Society Council on Legislation. At the national level, she is a member of several ACEP and EDPMA committees and is Chair of the Emergency Medicine Business Coalition, EMBC. She is most interested in the intersection of health care financing and health care delivery systems, and she enjoys working to affect policy in ways that allow physicians to provide the best care possible.

ERIC ADAR, MD

Chief Informatics Officer 

Dr. Eric Adar is a board-certified emergency physician, in practice since 2004. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York in Brooklyn and completed his residency at King’s County hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Adar has an interest in technology, health informatics and data science and helped ConsensioHealth develop analytic and reporting tools for executive end users.

Cara Friederich, CPC-I, CPC, COC

Chief Operating Officer

With over 30 years, Cara Friederich has been a noteworthy leader in the revenue cycle operations, coding, compliance and corporate strategy space. Ms. Friederich’s extensive experience has made her a strong asset in the industry at a national level.

Accustomed to driving operational efficiency, Ms. Friederich has an inherent ability to quickly identify and realize issues while employing strategies that maximize those efficiencies, operations, service offerings and staff performance. Her motto of “let the data drive you” has allowed her to surpass business goals and deliver results.

Ms. Friederich’s work has been published in Healthcare Business Monthly and HCCA Compliance Today and is a regular guest speaker at local AAPC chapter meetings.

Ms. Friederich is a member of American Academy of Professional Coders. Her certifications include Certified Professional Coder-Instructor (“CPC-I”), Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (“COC”) and Certified Professional Coder (“CPC”).

Brent Birkhoff

Chief Human Resources Officer

Spending 40 years in businesses as diverse as restaurant, retail, and manufacturing, Brent is an innovative and professional high-energy thinker who observes and channels the obvious in non-traditional ways to achieve business results and ignite team performance. His strengths include Mergers/Acquisitions, Human Resource Management, Business and Product Development, Union Contracts and Negotiations, and Marketing. A top rated, proven performer who easily moves from vision and strategy to implementation. He holds a Master of Science in Thanatology, is a Certified Thanatologist, and holds his SPHR and SHRM-SCP.

Gene Coffield

Director of Finance

Gene comes to EMS from XYZ Beverage, the manufacturers of Press Premium Alcoholic Seltzer, where he was the Controller reporting directly to the President.  Prior to XYZ Beverage, Gene was at American Deposit Management, involved in the growth from ten to twenty-nine employees managing $1.3 billion in assets for clients.  Gene’s career includes time at Johnson Controls and in public accounting with Virchow, Krause & Company.  His expertise and experience includes all accounting and compliance tasks, financial auditing, budgeting, cash forecasting, financial close, and internal auditing.  Gene has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and will be renewing his CPA License soon.
